Ben was an ATF agent assigned at Neptune High to befriend Norris Clayton, thinking he was the one who created the heinous countdown website and made several bomb threats at Neptune High. When Ben and Norris get into an argument, he drags Veronica Mars into the case after he spotted her investigating him. Veronica kept Norris occupied and it was revealed that Ben was really actually planning to frame Norris for the crime to end the case quickly, deeming him as corrupt as most of the Sheriff's Department. Norris is arrested but is released the next day when Veronica and the Journalism class publish evidence of Ben planting fake evidence in Norris's trunk.
