Mars Investigations is a private investigation business owned by Keith Mars. He runs it in conjunction with his daughter Veronica, who ostensibly works as his secretary while really taking on half the cases while she was in high school. After Veronica finishes college and gets her law degree, her high school reunion and the murder of her former classmate Carrie draws her back to Neptune and the P.I. world and Veronica decided to stay and become officially licensed as a P.I. to help her dad run the place.

Mars investigations is located on the second floor of the building and can be accessed by a private outdoor staircase. Upon entry, there is an open to a sitting area with a couch and an extra desk as well as a small enclosed kitchen. To the right is Keith Mars' private office while on the left is another room that is later turned into Veronica's office. The office has a few windows and in some, sections of the glass are red. Most of the office is painted a warm yellow and has deep brown trim with the exception of the kitchen which is blue.

In the series, Mars Investigations is located at the corner of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. and Parmelee Pl. in Neptune California. Across the street is Hot Rod's Liquor & Check Cashing, while on the opposite corner is the Java the Hut coffee shop. Also neer by is a funeral home and Hearst College.

- The exterior shot of the building where Veronica's dad's private investigation agency is housed in the Cabrillo Academy of the Sword along 3339 Adams Avenue 92116 in Normal Heights. For reference, the popular Lestat's Coffee House is next to where Mars Investigations would be.
- Most of the scenes filmed inside the office of Mars Investigations are, of course, on a set at the Stu Segall lot.
- Across the street and on the same block as Mars Investigations is the car wash often seen in Season One flashbacks with Lilly Kane. It is the Adams Avenue Car Wash on Adams Avenue.
